Our Craft 

Purr designs and crafts conscious natural pleasure elixirs and embodied, heart-activating tonic cocktails. In short, we are resurrecting the lost art of the aphrodisiac – in our modern era, largely relegated to mere myth.

In ancient times however, every culture had its own special ‘potions of love’, unique (and often secret) recipes of rare herbs, roots, barks, flower nectars and botanical distillates, intended to inspire their users to greater heights of awareness, intimacy and pleasure.

This is what Purr is now doing, and making available to you. And we take our work quite seriously!

These handmade biochemical symphonies are all inspired by and built upon the botanical wisdom of the earth, primarily by observing and learning from the medicinal lore of traditional cultures (and of course by extensive live testing and iteration by our crew of committed yogis, tantrikas and pleasure-aficionados.)

The advantage we have now, is access to all the botanical literature in one place, as well as efficient transport systems which allow us to draw raw material building blocks from anywhere in the world.

Additionally, laboratory science has advanced to allow very specific molecular compounds to be extracted, standardized and re-combined in novel and consistently replicable ways.

Traditional aphrodisiacs were always limited to the fruits of the local biome and to the knowledge and skills (often vast) of the local medicine-man or medicine-woman. Building upon this anciently encoded and transmitted knowledge, we can now craft our elixirs using a much richer palette than was ever available to the shaman or priestess - and with more sophistication than ever before.

There are three products in the line so far but this will continue to grow as we continue to research, discover, formulate and test (there are another four in delightful R&D right now).

Our core development philosophy is that products created always be both experientially delicious and profoundly usable while naked. And the art of adjusting the nervous system in ways that are compatible with radiant and enduring health is one we are deeply committed to refining and evolving. The elixirs that Purr makes will always be true to these three co-essential principles.

Quality Standards

• All ingredients are naturally-occurring plant alkaloids only – this is our absolute rule.

• Mostly these are full-spectrum raw plant concentrates (occasionally Spagyrically produced), sometimes they are purified and standardized botanical extracts and, more rarely, we use synthesized pure molecules where it is totally impractical to derive a particular compound from the plant. Plants used for extractions are always organically grown or ethically wild-crafted.

• In cultivation we ensure careful adherence to both genetic selection and agricultural patterns that support maximal expression of the plant’s medicinal properties. Many of our extracts are ‘Original Biome’ certified – meaning the plant is grown in the same essential area, climate, soil chemistry and associated ecosystem (including companion plants and animals) as it was when it acquired its original revered reputation as an adaptogen, tonic medicine or teacher plant.

• Our wild-crafting of botanicals is always done ethically and sustainably to ensure ongoing future harvests of high quality (preferably increasing biomass and genetic biodiversity over time), protection of local ecosystems and positive and mutually-beneficial relationships with local inhabitants.

• Our capsules are made from clear Pullulan, a completely natural, Japanese-developed, nutritional compound derived from fermented tapioca. It is the gold standard of capsules and way healthier than either gelatin or conventional vegetarian capsules.

• We never use any fillers, binders, colourants, flavourants or synthetic preservatives in our elixirs. If preserving is required then we will use natural plant acids and if a flow agent is required (it usually isn’t) then certified organic rice bran powder is used.

• For optimal longevity of our delicate ingredients, we bottle in Swiss-made Miron violet glass. This lets through light at precisely the right wavelength for optimal preservation of the contents.

• Our rule with any alcohol used for tincturing our herbs is that it has never been in contact with plastic and thus is totally free from the plasticizers and related compounds that would otherwise be found in it.

Philosophical Underpinnings

The ‘Alchemy of Love’ refers to that complex biochemical substrate that is the basis for how we feel, for how much love we feel, and for how we experience life altogether.

It is well understood within the disciplines of cognitive science, pharmacology and shamanism that all emotional states have a corresponding neurochemical configuration. Our brain chemistry and our emotions constantly reflect each other, and trigger each other, in a seamless Mobius of experience.

We are all intuitively familiar with the idea (even through our language) that there is a chemistry of love. And that states of love, desire, attraction,  excitement, enjoyment and happiness are a kind of chemistry – derived both internally and even externally via pheromonal signalling.

All beings desire more happiness, joy, love and pleasure – even profound spiritual and sexual intensity. What allows us to feel more of these emotions is obviously very complex, but it has largely to do with these four intersecting planes of experience:

• How connected we are to our intrinsic essence and natural ground state of being – which is often a reflection of our essential spirituality and practice thereof.

• Our practical life circumstance, our intimate relationships and how we engage them – including our expression of the body in these relationships and through various yogic and tantric practices.

• Our mental health altogether, our mental states and what and how we think – and how we choose to perceive the world and our relationships.

• What we take into the body – our food, our drink, our supplements, our drugs – and how these directly affect our blood chemistry and thus the subtle alchemy of neurotransmitter biogenesis and receptor sensitivity.

While understanding the synergistic importance of all four of these, it is this forth aspect that Purr Elixirs addresses through its products. This dimension is the easiest to adjust directly – and it also supports the evolution of the other three.


Conscious Engagement

One of our taglines is ‘The Alchemy of Love’. The other could just as readily be ‘The Art of Conscious Hedonism’.

Using these elixirs is one thing, but using them in a life that is sensitive to, and engaged with, the three other ‘planes of experience’ mentioned above, is the most auspicious.

Therefore, our intention is to provide information that addresses these other three dimensions and offers guidelines on how to incorporate Purr’s products into a lifestyle filled with pleasure, intimacy and vitality. And thus ultimately encourage a way of living that supports both longevity and the most deeply integrated and embodied kind of emotional-sexual expression.

Pleasure Heals! And this is one of the understandings that underlies the practice of hedonism in a conscious way. It is not necessary to damage the body in order to have a good time – and we need not make choices as if between a more yogic lifestyle and the one traditionally embraced by the libertine.

Indeed, it is in honouring and respecting the biochemical integrity of the body-mind that a ‘lover of pleasure’ and a ‘lover of love’ can enjoy the highest raptures of the body and of life. Pleasure, consciously enjoyed, allowed and amplified, is both a means for our spiritual growth and a lawful expression of our already-present Divinity.

Each Purr elixir consists of five size ‘00’ capsules that make up a single dose for one person. This facilitates progressive engagement with the product and the state engendered. Many find that less than this is totally adequate, while others may desire more. (Five capsules also allows us to get all the herbs in that we need – potency, pharmacological density and space are things we are always artfully having to work with!)

Capsules can either be swallowed or blended whole with your mixer of choice to make your favourite cocktail – the capsule shell will dissolve into a tasteless and nutritious liquid within seconds. (Our soon to be released tinctures will have their own dosing guidelines.)

Please note that different elixirs have different overall strengths. And biochemical individuality (and one that is not even static day by day) is a very real thing. As is ‘set and setting’, i.e. the context in which you take them will affect how you experience them.

Biochemically, everything interacts. So what you had for lunch, what you had to drink, what supplements, medicines and drugs you might have taken (no judgement) – all of these will interact. So take the time and the care to experiment over time. Obviously Purr’s elixirs themselves can be taken in combination and will interact with each other – usually in very pleasing ways!

Our recommendation is that the optimum circumstance to experience these elixirs is in the play of intimacy, on a relatively empty stomach, with not too much else in the system. In that context we will be the most sensitive, and likely most appreciative of the kind of shifts that occur.

That said, Purr Elixirs products will have also have application in many other contexts such as yoga, bodywork, hiking in nature, making music, shamanic work and obviously any kind of celebration. And the deeper the celebration the better. We wish that it be as blissful, playful, erotic, exaggerated and loving as possible!
